Pastel Basics Review & Styling

In general, paper bag and waist-tied pants, along with wider legs and flowing materials, have been super popular for the last three years of so. Pastels have also been back with a vengeance for a while. All this came to Stardoll with the new BASICS floor.

Style wise, I think this collection manages to capture current trends while also being what BASICS items ought to be - timeless, and easy to mix and match. The graphics aren't half as good as the previous basics release which is a little disappointing, but they're still a step above some items we've had lately, and those cost stardollars.

My favourite items are the sheer shirts, as it's rare we get textured items for starcoins and they're nicely tailored for layering, and the slacks, since they are a nice addition to any pants collection.

My least favourite item is easily shorts, which combine bad graphics and a plain ugly hem to make an item I really hate. They also don't make much sense in a collection which has otherwise quite formal and structured pieces.

The mediocre award goes to the short frill socks and the low top sneakers. We've hand multiple pairs of similar items before, which is irritating, but they're usually in stardollars, so at least these classic items are able to be bought at a reasonable price by everyone.

My Styling:

From the above dolls, and from looking through Spotlight pictures, it was clear that the skirts and pants were the two most popular items from this release. The next popular items were the sheer shirts and frill tops. I couldn't find a single person using a bag, or the dreaded shorts. Given there's already similar items, I couldn't tell if people were wearing the shoes and socks or something similar from another brand.

I decided to try my hand at a popular item, and an unpopular one.

The purple pants were probably the easiest things to style that I've bought for a while. Their shape makes layering very stress free, and the colour goes with almost anything - though I ended up sticking with just purple in the end, you'll be guaranteed to see it with other things in the future.

The shirt was a different story. I love blue and stripes a lot, but the pinstripe nature made it hard to match with other prints, which is what I usually like to use stripes for.
